Bio
Taiwanese-Canadian violist and pianist, Eve Tang, brings passion and dedication to the world of classical and modern music. An avid chamber and orchestral musician, Ms. Tang's performances have taken her around the globe. Her orchestral endeavors include titled positions in orchestras in Asia, North America and Europe. Upon completion of the New World Symphony fellowship in Florida, she was appointed to orchestra positions including the associate principal chair of the Malaysian Philharmonic orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, and Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Tang has also performed with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the Cleveland Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Over the years, she has had opportunities in Europe to work under conductors such as the late Pierre Boulez, Gianandrea Noseda, Vasily Petrenko, Manfred Honeck, Valery Gergiev, Christoph Eschenbach, Charles Dutoit, and Christian Zacharias.
Her most notable chamber music collaborations include artists such as Emanuel Ax and Ani Kavafian at Carnegie Hall. In addition, Ms. Tang has worked closely and performed with the Keller Quartet, the Tokyo String Quartet, the St. Lawrence String Quartet, the Leipzig String Quartet, and members of the Alban Berg Quartet. Her most recent collaboration with Lucia Micarelli brought her to the stage at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, TX.
Ms. Tang complements her work both as a performer with commitments to nonprofit organizations that deliver music education and outreach programs. She has held administrative positions working at the Kennedy Center for the National Symphony Orchestra and the Washington National Opera, and also at the Toronto Summer Music Festival. As a volunteer serving as a faculty member of the Sitar Arts Center in Columbia Heights, Ms. Tang gained invaluable and humbling experience teaching piano and violin to children and youth from underserved areas of the city. Her devotion to education has led her to teaching engagements in schools, libraries, hospitals, and cultural centers in North and Central America.
She currently holds a tenured position with the Austin Symphony Orchestra and has regularly performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. She is also the principal of the South Carolina Philharmonic and regularly performs with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra as an extra. In the summer, she spends her time at the Bellingham Festival of Music in Washington and Wintergreen Music Festival in Virginia.
A graduate of the Yale School of Music, the McGill University and the New World Symphony, Ms. Tang was under the tutelage of Ettore Causa and Andre Roy. Ms. Tang performs on a Hiroshi Iizuka viola in the viola d’amore style.
